The Dakota County CDA created the Workforce Family Townhome Program in 1990 in response to the rising need for affordable housing for Dakota County’s workforce.

Meeting Local Demand.

The Workforce Family Townhome Program is designed for moderate-income families with children under the age of 18 and provides affordable one-, two- or three-bedroom townhomes in nine of the major cities in Dakota County.

Farmington Waiting List

There is a separate waiting list for Farmington Workforce Housing which will fill units at Twin Ponds Townhomes and Denmark Trail Townhomes (opening in 2025). Denmark Trail Townhomes will have one-, two-, three-, and four-bedroom units.

There is also a separate waiting list for households needing accessible units. It is the Workforce Housing Accessible Units list. Households needing a mobility accessible unit must indicate the need on the Accessibility needs portion of the online application.

This program serves households earning below 60% of area median income (AMI) adjusted for family size. Most developments require income at initial lease up to be below 50% of area median income.

Minimum Income Requirements

  • 1 Bedroom: $22,224
  • 2 Bedroom: $25,776
  • 3 Bedroom: $28,992
  • 4 Bedroom: $35,640

For households that receive rental assistance, the minimum income requirements are waived. Rental assistance programs can include the federal Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) Program, VASH, Family Unification Program, or other State or locally funded rent assistance programs.

Preference is given to households who live or work in Dakota County or to households that do not have a permanent address in Dakota County, but receive benefits from Dakota County Employment & Economic Assistance (such as DWP, GA, MFIP, MSA, and SNAP).

Water, sewer and trash are included in workforce housing rents. Residents are responsible for electricity and gas utilities.

Applications are being accepted for Workforce Family Townhome Housing. Interested applicants can apply online using any device with internet access, including computers, laptops, tablets or smart phones.

  • Create a CDA MyHousing account (Email address required).
  • Only one application per household.
  • Head/co-head must have DOB and Social Security Number.
  • Application can be translated into other languages.

The application is screened for initial eligibility.

If eligible, you are placed on the waiting list and receive a confirmation email.

When approaching the top of the list, you'll start the program eligibility process.

Staff verify income, rental history, credit, and criminal background. Fee is due now.

Application Approved or Denied.

  • If approved: you will be placed on the waiting list until a unit becomes available.
  • If denied: you will be removed from the waiting list. You may apply again if your situation changes and you meet eligibility requirements.

You are offered a unit when available.
